Which Hyaluronic Acid Serums Actually Fight Signs of Aging? I’ve Tested Dozens - Here Are 5 Serums That Actually Work

By: Dr. Jessica Langford, MD Dermatology

Latest update: July, 2026

Which Hyaluronic Acid Serums Actually Work & Are Worth Trying?

Being a busy dermatologist that works in 3 different clinics, has treated hundreds of patients, and being a skincare junkie myself I’ve been fortunate to test dozens of products with hyaluronic acid so you don’t have to spend time and waste money to discover a great product and support a radiant complexion.

It’s hard to know what is marketing hype and what products are actually true heroes that help transform your skin. I use Hyaluronic Acid myself, recommend it to my patients, and evaluate if products are effective based on their ability to address a wide variety of visible skin concerns such as:

  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles

  • Dark Spots & Sun Spots

  • Uneven Complexion

  • Dry, Sensitive, or Oily Skin

  • Signs of Aging

I’ve been updating my list, continuing to look for the best products to visibly support skin health so that we can age gracefully. Some at the top of my list continue to be standouts time and time again and I’ve found a few additional favorites that made their way in for 5 of my favorite Hyaluronic Acid Serums.

This is the only serum on this list that consistently leaves skin looking smoother, brighter, more even, and visibly reduces fine lines by morning without irritation. I’ve been using Overnight Renewal for over a year now and it continues to deliver fantastic results, which keeps it at the top of my list of the best serums and why I would heartily recommend it to any patient of mine looking for hydrated, radiant, & visibly age-defying skin.

And I’m not the only Dermatologist who thinks so. From Dermatologists I have connected with personally to others I connect with online I consistently see Overnight Renewal at the top of Dermatologist  recommendations and for good reason! This serum delivers visible improvements fast with many users seeing results in a matter of days or weeks.

What sets Overnight Renewal apart is that it does not rely on hyaluronic acid alone. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid that is fantastic for helping attract and retain moisture in the skin and soften the appearance of visible signs of aging, but it also combines both well-researched and powerful ingredients such as Ferulic Acid, Glycerin, Bamboo Extract, Aloe Vera, and a blend of antioxidant-rich botanical extracts. I love that Overnight Renewal is a multi-functional serum that visibly addresses some of my patients biggest skin concerns.

✅ Dark Spots & Brightening

✅ Fine Lines & Wrinkles

✅ Uneven Texture & Tone

✅ Dullness & Lack of Radiance

✅ Hydration

You wake up with skin that feels plump & hydrated, looks even & glowy, and is not irritated. It’s also lightweight, but effective, and absorbs without leaving a sticky residue. It’s great for those with mature skin, anyone who wants to get ahead of signs of aging, and those with active lifestyles.

Looking for a serum that’s thoughtful about both your skin and the planet? This serum is a perfect fit! Overnight Renewal is created with a blend of hydrating and botanical ingredients and is certified cruelty-free and vegan too! And an added bonus: their bottles are made with recyclable glass.

Marketing can be tricky, but clinicals don’t lie. Overnight Renewal has been clinically proven to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, hydrate skin, and visibly improve skin tone & texture.

So if you’re looking for a multi-benefit Hyaluronic Acid Serum that actually works and visibly reduces fine lines & wrinkles for more youthful looking skin then I would recommend trying Overnight Renewal

Coming in second place is Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum, which has packaging that reminds me of having an old-money, old Hollywood vibe.

This well-known serum has a silky texture that spreads very easily, and is very lightweight. I find it a bit more watery than other serums on the list.

The Advanced Repair Night Serum I think is particularly great for mature skin and would appeal to older women, similar to Overnight Renewal, and is a group that makes up a large portion of my client base.

This serum contains hyaluronic acid, glycerin, tripeptide-32 as well as tocopheryl acetate. Great ingredients to support a radiant complexion. However, for those looking to avoid synthetic dyes I should note it contains Red 4 (Ci 14700) and Yellow 5 (Ci 19140).

The synthetic dyes combined with the higher price tag are two factors that put it as second and not at the top of the list.

Taking third place is La Roche-Posay’s Hyalu B5 Serum. You may be familiar with this serum as it is sold in many drugstores. This serum has a very clean, fresh fragrance that I personally enjoy when applying.

The serum itself is thick and has a bouncy gel texture that feels cushiony and hydrating, which can make it a great choice for those with very dry skin that enjoy a thicker serum.

Hyalu B5 Serum combines hyaluronic acid with B5 and madecassoside and is formulated to help replenish the natural moisture barrier. It can be a good entryway serum for a new patient, which combined with the supporting ingredients is in good part why it made it onto my list. For skincare pros and those looking for a more multi-functional serum they may want to try a more robust serum.

A solid starter serum although results are more subtle compared to multi-benefit formulas.

Fourth on my list is Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench Hyaluronic Liquid Gel Cloud Serum. I came across this serum because a lot of my patients use it, and I wanted to try it myself.

The Gel Cloud Serum is the only serum on the list that includes Sodium PCA. Studies show this particular ingredient can visibly moisturize & hydrate your skin’s appearance.

When I tried this serum, I felt like it gave me a luminous glow. My skin felt very moisturized and I looked less dehydrated after using it.

I felt like this serum was more like a cream because of its thicker consistency. However, some of my patients do prefer this cream-like texture – especially my male patients.

Why’s this one lower on my list?

I personally found the mild odor to be a deterrent for me - it made me not want to use it - which is something you never want in skincare.

One of my biggest gripes with this serum is its lack of powerhouse ingredients. It’s missing out on some of the hero ingredients that other serums on this list have, such as Ferulic Acid, Vitamin C, Peptides, AHAs, and more.

It’s also worth noting this serum includes Hydrolyzed Silk and Honey Extract, meaning it isn’t suitable for vegans.

While I feel Peter Thomas Roth’s serum is a strong contender in the world of HA serums, the lack of my preferred ingredients loses me. Still, I believe it’s a good option for those looking for a thicker, creamier HA serum.

Finally we have The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum.

Like others on this list, this serum has the coveted combination of Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin. Studies show both these ingredients work together to help visibly lock in moisture, helping your skin look healthier.

One of this serum’s biggest benefits is its price point. It's affordable and celebrated by lots of younger people who are looking to get into skincare for the first time.

I also love the inclusion of Vitamin B5 in this serum. Studies show Vitamin B5 has the ability to help visibly support the skin’s vital building blocks.

However… This serum is on the thicker side and I found it very sticky. Some of my patients have told me it caused a stinging sensation on their skin. This could be attributed to skin sensitivities - so I’d strongly advise that you perform a spot test and see if your skin reacts negatively before you start to use the serum regularly.

Either way, take note if you have sensitive skin yourself.

Unfortunately, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum is another one that is missing a lot of my favorite effective ingredients, such as Ferulic Acid and Peptides.

All in all, I felt it was important to include this product as an entry option into Hyaluronic Acid, but I feel like the short ingredient list means it’s missing lots of ingredients I would typically recommend to my patients looking for a virtually wrinkle-free complexion.

Effective for basic hydration, but limited if your goal is visible skin transformation. But again, be cautious if you have skin sensitivities.

Conclusion:

There you have it, my top Hyaluronic Acid serum is Bambeautica Overnight Renewal Serum.

Beyond its incredible formula, the texture is a dream. If that wasn’t enough, Overnight Renewal aligns

perfectly with my ethical values, boasting naturally derived and vegan ingredients, as well as a cruelty-free certification.

So, if you're looking for a Hyaluronic Acid serum that exceeds expectations, I believe

the choice is crystal clear Bambeautica Overnight Renewal Serum.
